The manufacturing techniques for carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) improved rapidly in the last years, the automotive industry plays a huge role in this evolution. CFRP has high stiffness and is also very light, these two characteristics make it extremely valuable for cars. Nevertheless, CFRP is expensive to produce at the moment. To use it not just for the high-class cars, the price for the manufacturing CFRP has to fall. To achieve this, the manufacturing techniques and processes have to be optimized and automated. This report is intended to review the current manufacturing techniques for the automotive industry and discuss which techniques are suitable for the production of different types of cars.
