An investigation of the application of quality standards to manufacturing processes.

Ymchwiliad i gymhwyso safonau ansawdd i brosesau gweithgynhyrchu.

The aim of this dissertation was to improve the manufacturing processes of the fictitious aircraft engine manufacturer PropulsionX in order to increase the quality of the final product. This was caused due to quality defects in the engine model "AM-711", which led to excessive oil consumption and thus to a reduction in customer satisfaction. In order to achieve optimal results, a guideline was developed, which contains an analysis of the structure, operation and benefits of the quality management system and additionally a description of the manufacturing process. Furthermore, the quality management tool Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle was applied for solving the quality problem “High oil consumption on the AM-711 engine” by investigating the manufacturing process. The strategy was to determine the as-is state in order to identify the quality reducing factors and therefore planning the quality improvement task. Afterwards, the elaborated improvement measures were implemented and tested, with the help of pilot groups, in order to test the impacts under working conditions. Following the strategy, key figures were recorded and compared from new target state to the determined as-is state. In the event of a positive change, the improvement options were integrated into the manufacturing process and standardised in the company. In order to achieve sustainable success in the future, a Kaizen process will be established in PropulsionX, for support and responsibility of continuous improvement.
The approach of this project has the capacity to serve as a blueprint for similar companies that intend to improve their product quality.

Nod y traethawd hir hwn oedd gwella prosesau gweithgynhyrchu'r gwneuthurwr peiriannau awyrennau ffuglen PropulsionX er mwyn cynyddu ansawdd y cynnyrch terfynol. Achoswyd hyn oherwydd diffygion ansawdd yn y model injan "AM-711", a arweiniodd at ddefnyddio gormod o olew ac felly at leihad mewn boddhad cwsmeriaid. Er mwyn sicrhau'r canlyniadau gorau posibl, datblygwyd canllaw, sy'n cynnwys dadansoddiad o strwythur, gweithrediad a manteision y system rheoli ansawdd ac yn ogystal disgrifiad o'r broses weithgynhyrchu. At hynny, cymhwyswyd offer Cylch Cynllunio-Gwneud-Gwirio-Gweithredu ar gyfer datrys y broblem ansawdd "Defnydd uchel o olew ar injan AM-711" drwy ymchwilio i'r broses weithgynhyrchu. Y strategaeth oedd pennu'r cyflwr fel ag y mae er mwyn nodi'r ffactorau lleihau ansawdd ac felly cynllunio'r dasg gwella ansawdd. Ar ôl hynny, cafodd y mesurau gwella a ymhelaethwyd eu rhoi ar waith a’u profi, gyda chymorth grwpiau peilot, er mwyn profi'r effeithiau o dan amodau gwaith. Yn dilyn y strategaeth, cofnodwyd ffigurau allweddol a'u cymharu o gyflwr targed newydd i'r cyflwr fel ag y mae a bennwyd. Os bydd newid cadarnhaol, cafodd yr opsiynau gwella eu hintegreiddio i'r broses weithgynhyrchu a'u safoni yn y cwmni. Er mwyn sicrhau llwyddiant cynaliadwy yn y dyfodol, bydd proses Kaizen yn cael ei sefydlu yn PropulsionX, er mwyn cefnogi a bod yn gyfrifol am welliant parhaus. Mae gan ddull gweithredu'r prosiect hwn y gallu i wasanaethu fel glasbrint ar gyfer cwmnïau tebyg sy'n bwriadu gwella ansawdd eu cynnyrch.
