Energy storage is becoming more and more important with the increasing share of renewable energies in covering the world's energy demand. Renewable energies supply electricity depending on weather conditions. Energy production cannot be controlled as with fossil energy sources. Through the storage of the surplus energy, this problem can be compensated. The stored energy is available when it is needed. There are different storage systems for storing electrical energy. In the future, the adiabatic compressed air energy storage system should be capable of keeping up with existing storage systems or even prevail. In this dissertation, the adiabatic compressed air energy storage system is compared with its competitors using a real-world example. Furthermore, possible locations are shown in order to construct such an energy storage system as sustainably as possible.
